Barrow 1-1 Mansfield Town

Promoted Mansfield thwarted Barrow's bid for a first ever appearance in the EFL play-offs as the sides played out a 1-1 League Two draw at Holker Street.

Pete Wild's side needed victory to extend their season but suffered a setback when George Maris fired the Stags into a 16th-minute lead.

But Barrow, who failed to win any of their seven games in April, hit back after the break to keep alive their chances.

Keeper Christy Pym kept out Kian Spence's free-kick from the edge of the area. However, Spence would not be denied and drilled in a superb 58th-minute equaliser after good approach play by Sam Foley.

Barrow could not settle for a point and surged forward in search of a winner. Pym kept out a Dean Campbell effort as the tension increased.

Mansfield had been second best for much of the second half but Nigel Clough's side then needed a goal themselves to secure second place, with Wrexham beating champions Stockport.

However, the stalemate remained and both teams were left with a draw neither wanted.

Good battling performance from Barrow and matched Mansfield. Great second half, unfortunate not to make the playoffs but a tremendous achievement for such a small club.

Have to say, surprised Barrow haven't made the play offs at the very least. We're a threat to the top 3 up to a couple of weeks ago, had games in hand on my club Wrexham and were seen as a threat. Regroup and go again next season. All the best.

Barrow, tough end to a hard luck season. You showed how a small team can compete against bigger budgets, and all the promoted teams can probably learn something. Hoping you regroup and follow Wrexham and others up next year.

Barrow threw everything at the stags today, stags did well to resist the pressure. It’s been a good away day. Rubbish view though

40 years in non league football after finishing 3rd from bottom, kicked out off the 4th division and no stadium funding from the football league unlike nearly everyone else.

As disappointments go this must be up there with the worst of them, but it’s still a brilliant season. To achieve what Barrow have is to me better than what the likes of Stockport and Wrexham have done. Like a number of the smaller Northern teams who have very limited resources and even less financial backing just surviving in the EFL is an achievement in it’s self, All the best for next season .

That late Bradford goal on Tuesday by Tyler Smith(on loan at Barrow a few years ago) was so costly a draw would have put Barrow ahead of Crawley by 1 goal, very slim margins in football, but only 6 wins from last 24 games isn`t play-off form, retain list out next week hope the Manager makes them difficult decisions Barrow need to be better next season when hopefully another go at the play-offs.

Fantastic season by Barrow. But next season they can improve with some psychological coaching that's now common in the Premier league. The last six games with no wins show they buckled under the pressure.

Really expected Barrow to at least make the playoffs as have already been said. Can't see anything but MKD, Doncaster R final for me

Wow! As chokes go Barrow must be up there with the worst of them, if not top of the pile. Missing out on the play offs by one point after just 2 points from their last 7 games. Who can choking well beat that?
