Peterborough United chairman provides important transfer update on two key players

Speaking on a Periscope Q&A to Posh fans on Wednesday night, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed that defender Ryan Tafazolli will leave the club at the end of the season, while they have an option to extend Marcus Maddison’s contract.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has said that centre-back Ryan Tafazolli will leave the club at the end of the season, also stating that they have an option to extend the contract of playmaker Marcus Maddison.

MacAnthony hosted a Periscope Q&A via Twitter to answer questions from supporters, informing fans about their decision to appoint Darren Ferguson on a long-term contract and to discuss the club’s long-term plans.

“This summer I think we have contracted to the club by June is 17 professionals. And, we have Marcus (Maddison) with an option on his contract obviously. So that would be 18 professionals.”

When asked by a fan about the futures of Tafazolli and Maddison, MacAnthony confirmed that the defender will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, also reiterating that there is an option to extend Maddison’s stay.

“Yes, Taff (Tafazolli) will (leave) and Marcus we have an option on and that is something we will decide with the gaffer (Ferguson).”

Tafazolli’s departure will bring an end to three-year spell with the club. The 27-year-old joined from Mansfield Town in 2016 and has been a hit with fans during his time at London Road. He has played 126 games in all competitions for the club, netting seven goals along the way (Transfermarkt).

Should Maddison remain beyond the end of the summer, next season will be the playmaker’s sixth season with the club. His strong form over the course of his time at Posh has seen him regularly linked with moves away. However, he has remained at the club and is a firm fan favourite. The 25-year-old has played 213 games for the club across all competitions, scoring 48 goals and providing a stunning 81 assists (Transfermarkt).
