Route confirmed for Mansfield Town's open top bus parade

Mansfield Town Football Club has announced further details of its open top bus parade after the team secured promotion to League One.

The Stags clinched promotion from League Two after beating Accrington Stanley 2-1 on Tuesday 11 April.

Multiple roads will be closed for the parade, which leave the club's One Call Stadium at 13:00 BST on Sunday.

Owners John and Carolyn Radford said it was a "fantastic opportunity" for the fans to come together and celebrate.

The club said road closures will be in place along Regent Street, Leeming Street, Market Street, Westgate, Stockwell Gate and on Queen's Street.

The bus will head from the stadium towards Marketplace in the town.

Owners of Mansfield Town, John and Carolyn Radford, said in a joint statement: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole town to come together and celebrate a historic promotion.

"We're greatly looking forward to celebrating with the people of Mansfield on Sunday and hope that thousands will turn out to show their appreciation to the players and staff."

On its way through the town it will pass by pubs including the Sir John Cockle pub, The Bold Forester, The William IV and The Talbot.

Businesses in the town have been preparing for the open top bus parade, with shop owners expecting a "massive turnout".

Shirlee Meads, a seamstress at Stitch Up dress makers, said her team had sold special shirts following the promotion.

"Ever since they secured that promotion, I thought we should do something to celebrate," she said.

"I've made lots of yellow and blue bunting! I'll probably be getting asked to make a lot more! I hope a lot of people come down on Sunday to cheer the team on. They deserve it."

Merys Cantillon, retail assistant at Hey Baby… Hey You homeware shop, said: "The players have earned it, they've done really well. Let's bring some love back to Mansfield.

"It's going to be a massive turn-out. There was over 8,000 people at their last home game so I expect Mansfield town centre to be pretty packed."

Vijay Chadda, owner of Collections Clothing, added: "The town is going to be choc-a-bloc on Sunday and everyone in Mansfield are enjoying themselves at the moment.

"This promotion and the celebrations are really going to help the town grow in confidence and put the town back on the map."
